About North & Common

North & Common started after a conversation Ashley Hendrix had while managing the kind of life logistics nobody really prepares you for.

A parent dies. An estate suddenly becomes your responsibility. There are financial accounts to untangle, legal processes to learn, houses full of belongings to deal with, and a thousand small administrative decisions that somehow still need to happen while you are grieving and trying to continue functioning normally.

At one point, someone told her:

I have no idea what I would do in your situation. You are the person I would ask.

That comment stayed with her.

Because the truth is, most people eventually find themselves navigating some version of this:

  • Aging parents
  • Health scares
  • Homeownership problems
  • Burnout
  • Financial complexity
  • Major life transitions
  • The operational side of adulthood

And when they do, the available information is often strangely unhelpful. Either aggressively generic SEO content written by people who have clearly never experienced the situation themselves, or polished lifestyle content that skips over the actual logistics.

North & Common exists somewhere in the middle.

It is a collection of practical guides, systems, lessons, and hard-earned observations about the less glamorous infrastructure of adult life:

  • Estate administration
  • Homeownership
  • Financial organization
  • Wellness and longevity
  • Decision fatigue
  • Grief and logistics
  • The systems that make difficult periods more manageable

Ashley writes from the perspective of someone who likes clarity, structure, and honest tradeoffs. The goal is not perfection, optimization culture, or aesthetic productivity.

The goal is usefulness.

I don't have all the answers, but I have spent a lot of time researching, organizing, fixing mistakes, and learning from experience.

North & Common exists to share what worked, what didn't, and what I wish someone had told me sooner.
